Privacy Summary

BrightSteps does not transmit personal data to Asian Sparrow or third parties. The app has no user accounts, advertising, advertising identifiers, analytics, behavioral tracking, crash reporting, social features, location, camera, contacts, payments, or developer server. The Android production build has no Internet permission.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, location, contacts, photos, videos, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, usage histories, or payment information through BrightSteps. We do not sell, rent, share, or use personal information for targeted advertising.

App-store operators may independently process download, device, and diagnostic information under their own policies. Asian Sparrow does not receive child speech recordings or in-app activity histories from BrightSteps.

Microphone And Speech Practice

The optional Say activity requests microphone access only after speech practice starts. BrightSteps asks the operating system for on-device recognition. If an on-device recognizer is unavailable, speech checking is reported unavailable without network fallback.

BrightSteps does not record, save, upload, or transmit microphone audio. A temporary transcript, match result, and score may be held in app memory while the activity is open. These values are not persisted and are replaced when a new attempt starts or the app process ends. Denying microphone permission does not block other activities.

Local Information

Caregiver settings, accessibility preferences, voice choices, personal practice words, and lesson preferences may be stored in app-private local storage. Session insights remain local. Android backup and device transfer are disabled. The developer cannot remotely view or retrieve this information.

A caregiver can erase local information under Parent Settings > Privacy & Local Data > Delete Local Data. Clearing app storage or uninstalling the app also removes it, subject to platform behavior.

Children’s Privacy

BrightSteps is intended for children age five and under with caregiver involvement and is designed to avoid online collection of children’s personal information. We do not knowingly collect, use, disclose, sell, or share personal information from children through the app. The app has no posting, messaging, account creation, behavioral advertising, or child-accessible external links.

Third-Party Software

BrightSteps includes libraries for local audio, local preferences, and operating-system speech recognition. It does not include advertising, analytics, social login, cloud storage, or remote configuration SDKs.

Security, Retention, And Choices

Local settings remain until a caregiver deletes them, clears app storage, or removes the app. BrightSteps minimizes data, keeps app information local, disables Android backup, and excludes Internet access from its Android production build. Caregivers may deny permissions, avoid entering personal words, delete local data, clear storage, uninstall, or contact us.

Changes

We may update this policy when features, store requirements, or laws change. The effective date and store disclosures will be updated before materially different data practices are released.

1. Caregiver Agreement

Only an adult may accept these Terms. By downloading, installing, or allowing a child to use BrightSteps, the Caregiver confirms authority to accept these Terms and agrees to supervise the child’s use. If you do not agree, do not use BrightSteps.

2. Educational Purpose

BrightSteps provides picture-supported communication, vocabulary, phonics, early reading, speech practice, routines, and handwriting activities. It is an educational support tool, not medical care, speech-language therapy, diagnosis, treatment, emergency assistance, or a substitute for a licensed professional. Learning results vary.

3. Child Safety And Supervision

Caregivers are responsible for suitable activities, screen time, volume, supervision, and safe device use. BrightSteps is not an emergency communication system and must not be the only way a child can request urgent assistance.

4. Microphone Permission

Optional Say practice uses microphone access for on-device speech matching. Permission may be denied or revoked. BrightSteps does not record, save, or send microphone audio to Asian Sparrow.

5. License

Subject to these Terms and app-store rules, Asian Sparrow grants a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use BrightSteps for lawful personal, family, educational, or professional-support use.

You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, redistribute, commercially exploit, unlawfully reverse engineer, bypass restrictions, extract bundled content as a standalone library, infringe rights, or misrepresent BrightSteps as medical treatment or an emergency service.

6. Caregiver-Entered Content

Caregivers are responsible for personal practice words stored on their device. Do not enter a child’s full legal name, address, school, contact details, or other identifying information. Asian Sparrow does not receive or host these words.

7. Ownership

BrightSteps software, design, lessons, text, audio, illustrations, trademarks, and content are owned by or licensed to Asian Sparrow and protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms grant use, not ownership.

8. Availability And Changes

We may improve, update, replace, suspend, or discontinue features or platform support. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, every-device compatibility, or permanent store availability.

9. Disclaimer Of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BrightSteps is provided “as is” and “as available.” Asian Sparrow disclaims implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. Some exclusions may not apply in your jurisdiction.

10. Limitation Of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Asian Sparrow and its members, employees, contractors, licensors, and suppliers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, loss of data, loss of use, or loss of profits. Where liability cannot be excluded, total liability will not exceed amounts paid for BrightSteps in the preceding twelve months, or USD $10 if none was paid. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

11. Adult User Responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, an adult user is responsible for claims and reasonable costs arising from unlawful misuse, violation of these Terms, or infringement of another person’s rights. This provision does not apply to a child user.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by California law, excluding conflict rules, except where mandatory consumer law applies. California courts have jurisdiction unless applicable law provides otherwise.

13. Termination And Changes

The license ends if these Terms are materially violated. On termination, stop using and uninstall BrightSteps. We may update these Terms and revise the effective date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
